Concordia College and University (Delaware) is a nationally accredited higher education institution that awards associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in almost any subject, based primarily on adult students' prior studies at other accredited colleges and universities combined with the institution's academic assessment of their documented work experience credits. Concordia College & University (Delaware) was founded in 1999 and is in no way affiliated with a now defunct 'diploma mill' which operated mainly from the Dominican Republic during the nineteen eighties and nineties.

Accreditation

Concordia College & University is accredited by the National Academic Higher Education Agency NACHED (see www.accreditation.pro), a state licensed national accreditation body in Washington DC founded to promote and develop the U.S. Department of Labor's Non-Traditional Education Guidelines established in 1996 (see www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/education/nontraditional-education/nontrad-edu.htm).

National accreditation is mostly granted to correspondence schools and to distance education establishments offering a less formal education system. It is the second most commonly accepted form of accreditation in the United States, after regional accreditation which is granted exclusively to traditional brick-and-mortar institutions (see community.elearners.com/blogs/ashford_university_blog/archive/2007/11/10/regional-accreditation-vs-national-accreditation.aspx).

One of the reasons for this difference is the accreditor's approach to what a quality education should represent to the general public. Institutions applying for regional accreditation are commonly judged by their physical infrastructure, while those applying for national accreditation focus on the real-life employability of their degree programs.

Concordia College and University is rated a top-10 online higher education institution by the authoritative Online Education Factbook (see onlineedu.gov.ht) and the North American Education Institute (see www.educational.pro).

CHEA and the Department of Education

Unlike many other countries, the U.S. Federal Government and the U.S. Department of Education do not have the legal power to recognize institutions or programs, to inspect for quality assurance, or to determine educational standards (see www.docstoc.com/docs/1049928/Federal-Recognition-and-Approval).

One privately owned lobbying organization consisting mainly of professors and tutors at regionally accredited brick-and-mortar schools is the Council for Higher Education Accreditation CHEA (see www.chea.org). While initially created as a trade organization for department researchers and scientists, CHEA members have in recent years lobbied to have state and federal laws created against the evolution and globalization of distance education which directly affect their own members' employability.

Accredited distance education institutions such as Concordia College & University, Walden University and the University of Phoenix have largely been targeted by CHEA because of their lack of physical infrastructure while offering a quality education by mail and modem, similar to that of CHEA members at traditional schools.

Blogs, press releases and wiki's have been created by CHEA lobbyists to discredit academic efforts made by nationally accredited but non-CHEA recognized higher education establishments

(see public fraud report about CHEA board member George D. Gollin www.ripoffreport.com/Colleges-and-Universities/George-Gollin-Self-P/george-gollin-self-proclaimed-n7bb2.htm).
